TAMRAT’S STORY

I was born in 1982 in the eastern part of Ethiopia in the city Harer, at age three my dad died. My immediate family gathered to discuss my fate given my mom’s age, she was 22 years old, and everyone knew that she was going to get remarried. And the fact that I would be raised with a stepdad was scary for most of them as in Ethiopia this normally turns into an abusive situations. So they decide to place me in an orphanage.

I was taken to an orphanage that was established by Finish people in a remote countryside area. This is where I grew up until I aged out at 18 years old. I am grateful for my time in the orphanage as it’s there that I heard the gospel and gave my life to Jesus at an early age and got baptize at 14.

When I finished high school, I felt called to ministry and moved to Addis Ababa to study theology where I met Canadian missionaries who were teaching at the bible college. They invited me to work with them in a new English-speaking church plant where I served with them for fifteen years as part of the church leadership team while overseeing their church planting work and serving at the refugee camps in the northern part of the country.

In the year 2005 I got married to a beautiful young lady named Meheret with whom we now have five children; Barnabas, Paulos , Silas, Lidya and Timothy.

I am very excited to be serving as the country director at Make Your Mark and I look forward getting to know and serve each employee at Make your Mark along with all the children with purpose we serve.

MYM is blessed to have amazing staff who are all dedicated to the mission of bringing kids and girls out of sex/human trafficking and street life, to a life full of purpose. The mission could not be accomplished without them!
